Over 24 members of African-Australian communities came together on Saturday 4 August 22018 to discuss plans to build a platform to help improve advocacy work in city of Wyndham for African individuals, families and communities.
After discussions and deliberations, all members present at the meeting agreed to the creation of Wyndham African Communities Network (WACN). Wyndham is a growth corridor experiencing an exponential increase of the population and many African families are choosing to live in this part of Melbourne.
WACN supports African-Australians to enjoy optimal quality of life and well being and develop strong and healthy communities in the city of Wyndham by:
- Providing networking opportunities and connecting up diverse groups from an African-heritage
- Advocating for and promoting the welfare of these communities
- Identifying further opportunities for collaboration, including partnership with other multicultural communities
- Liaising with local and state government and other relevant stakeholders
- Responding to the changing needs of African communities and being a credible voice in the local area
