A network is about interacting with others to exchange information and develop social or professional contacts. African-Australian communities in Victoria and Melbourne in particular are quite vibrant. Many African individuals are driven by the need to do something to make a difference for their community. This has resulted in many organisations being created with the aim of addressing several issues and challenges that affect African-Australian communities.
However, while the number of advocacy groups has increased a lot within these communities, the outcomes for the advocacy work that is being invested has not always optimal. More and more community leaders and advocates within African communities acknowledge that lack of collaboration between various advocacy groups partly explains why there has not been sufficient progress in community advocacy projects. More and more people now realise that collaboration and partnership can help improve outcomes for various projects run by volunteers within local community groups
WACN has been created to help bridge the gap and improve efficiency and efficacy in community advocacy work. it is all about sharing information, knowledge, skills, connections and resources as a means to achieve better result in whatever project one may be involved in at a local level. Anyone who is interested in helping African-Australian communities in any area, such as youth, family, women empowerment, sports and recreation, heritage preservation etc.. can join WACN.
